About this tool
Paste an original and a revised version and see precisely what changed. Added lines, removed lines and edits are highlighted in a side-by-side view, with a count of each. It works for contracts, configuration files, code, translations — anything text-based. Nothing is uploaded, which matters when you are comparing drafts of a confidential document.
How to use the Free Diff Checker & Text Compare
- Paste the original text into the left panel.
- Paste the changed text into the right panel.
- Optionally ignore case or whitespace-only differences.
- Read the side-by-side highlighting: green for added, red for removed.
- Check the summary counts at the top to see the scale of the change.
Frequently asked questions
- Is my text uploaded?
- No. The comparison runs in your browser, so both versions stay on your device.
- How does it decide what changed?
- It uses a longest-common-subsequence diff over lines, the same approach as standard developer diff tools.
- Can I compare Word documents?
- Copy the text out of Word and paste it in. To compare formatting as well, use Word's own Review → Compare feature.
- Is there a size limit?
- Only your browser's memory. Very large files (many megabytes) will be slow, but ordinary documents are instant.
